Greater Chicago Food Depository
9A.M. - 12p.m.

The Greater Chicago Food Depository (GFCD) is a not-for-profit food distribution center providing food for hungry people while striving to end hunger in our community. The GFCD distibutes donated and purchased food through a network of 600 pantries (many of which are supported by Old St. Pat's Outreach). The GCFD is located at 4100 W. Ann Lurie Pl., Chicago.

Connections monthly support of the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD) contributed almost 500 hours of service for 2006 and valuable 'voucher credit' for some of the Old St. Pat's outreach partners.

Inspiration Cafe

Wake up early and join Connections as we serve the homeless at the Inspiration Cafe!
4554 N. Broadway. 6:30/7:30 to 9:30am

- In Chicago, fair market rent is $935 for a two-bedroom unit. To afford housing and stay within 30% of income, a renter must earn either $17.98 per hour or work 111 hours per week at minimum wage.

- Across Illinois, 65,184 households are on public housing wait lists, 65% of them are in Chicago. This is more than the total number of public housing units in Illinois, which is 63,810.

Inspiration Cafe is part of the Inspiration Corporation. In an atmosphere of dignity and respect, Inspiration Corporation helps people who are affected by homelessness and poverty to improve their lives and increase self-sufficiency through the provision of social services, employment training and housing. Specifically, Inspiration Cafe serves meals in a restaurant-style setting and provides supportive services in a therapeutic community designed to help individuals on their journey toward self-sufficiency. Last year, 27,482 meals were served at Inspiration Cafe (and its sister location in Woodlawn)!

We need 3 people starting at 6:30 am to assist in the kitchen preparing breakfast and another 7 people starting at 7:30am to serve breakfast to approximately 50 people in the Inspiration program. Everyone should be done by 9:30am, so you will have most of your Saturday free!
We are honored to partner with this long-established leader (founded in 1989) in Chicago's fight against homelessness and hope you can join us!

Please contact Theresa Mazurek theresa400@rcn.com or Denise Bossung deebee3@aol.com to sign up - thanks!
