Church Elevator & Cloister Walk
When Old St. Patrick’s Church was restored in the 1990’s, one of the ways of making this historic building accessible for men and women with physical challenges was to creatively install a personal lift. At first this appeared to be a good solution. However, over time and with increased usage, the personal lift proved no longer efficient to meet the needs of the heavy flow of traffic into our church. There have been far too many occasions when the lift has not functioned and as a result people were not able to attend funerals, weddings, and Sunday mass.
Something was done.
As a church that works very hard at proclaiming and living radical hospitality we needed to improve our accessibility for those who cannot navigate the stairs. As a result, Old St. Patrick’s embarked on a campaign to install a real, commercial elevator for this historic building. After consulting with architects and contractors, we have come up with an exciting solution.
