Under Fives
You may think to yourself, “what does this mean?” Does it apply to how long you like your eggs cooked? Maybe how long it takes to get in and out of the shower on a workday? Well, not long ago, a group of young parents decided that the name "Under Fives" defined, in part, who they were – interfaith (Catholic and Jewish) parents of children who are “under five.” HOWEVER, all agreed that it was a most crucial time to continue to explore issues of faith and family formation.
Our mission statement:
- To share examples and be role models for each other on how best to integrate two religions into family life;
- To form relationships/friendships with other interfaith couples who have similarly aged children; and
- To learn how and when to start teaching our young children about God and the principles of our respective religious traditions.
We offer a monthly Mom’s playgroup (dad’s are welcome too!) where parents and their little one’s can play and visit. If you are interested in hosting a group, or just coming to play, please contact Susan Ryan Kalina at susanfbr@comcast.net in the city. If you are interested in the suburban playgroup, please contact Christine Kaufman at christine.kaufman@comcast.net. We would like to help you find one another regardless of where you live and hope to set up groups throughout the metropolitan Chicago area.
