S.P.O.K.E.S

St. Pat's Opportunities for Kids to Experience Service

Inspired by Old St. Pat's Outreach Group, S.P.O.K.E.S was formed to introduce our children to outreach projects in which they can feel that they've made a difference to others. The projects are as follows:

Beth Katsaros Winter Clothing Drive

The Winter Clothing Drive supports the families of St. Agatha’s and a grade school in Cabrini-Green. Please watch The Crossroads Bulletin for details.

Outreach Gift Sort

Family Ministry volunteers will help collect, sort and wrap gifts for the Community Giving Tree.

Ronald McDonald House Pop Tab Collection

The money earned from this program goes directly towards the operating budget for the Ronald McDonald House. To date, more than 400 million pop tabs have been collected, generating $300,000. In 2004–2005, Old St. Pat’s collected more than 100,000 tabs!

Family Liturgy Heifer Project

Heifer International is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to ending world hunger by providing livestock, trees, training and other resources to help poor families in the United States and around the world become self-reliant.

Used Toy Drive and Toy Hospital

Old St. Pat’s Lenten service project will collect gently used toys for distribution to our Outreach organizations. Our Toy Hospital is responsible for cleaning, repairing, and delivering used toys. This program has been a very successful service opportunity.

Share Your Soles

Old St. Pat’s will collect shoes for Share Your Soles, an organization that reaches out to people living in some of the most desperate and poor conditions in our world. In the future, we may also have an opportunity to work in the shoe warehouse — sorting and cleaning shoes for their new recipients.

If you’re interested in helping out with any of these SPOKES projects or if you have other service ideas, please call Jacky Walther and Rob Kielian at 773.283.3521.
