Save the Date
Hope Sunday ~ May 18, 2008

When the day of Pentecost came it found
them gathered in one room.
(Acts 2:1)

We rise to the hope that church can be born again …and again…and again, but not without each other. We invite ALL members, friends, and guests of Old St. Patrick’s Church to join us at 10 a.m. on May 18, 2008, the first Sunday following Pentecost Day, for a special spirit-filled and bold celebration of the Eucharist at the UIC Forum.

We yearn to celebrate with you a Pentecost Moment in the life of Old St. Patrick’s.

All were filled with the Holy Spirit. They began to express themselves in foreign tongues and make bold proclamations as the Spirit prompted them. (Acts 2:4)

Sunday Scripture Study

… deepening our understanding of the Gospels through study and dialogue …

WHAT IS SUNDAY SCRIPTURE STUDY?

Sunday Scripture Study invites you to gather together with other people at Old St. Pat’s for the purpose of deepening our understanding of the spiritual wisdom available to us in the Gospels through a process of study and dialogue. Our focus will be on the Sunday Gospels for Lent.

WHY STUDY IN A GROUP?

Together with Christians throughout history we believe that the wisdom of the Gospels is most effectively broken open through dialogue with each other, allowing us to be resources to each other. Sunday Scripture Study invites us to re-discover one of the earliest practices of Christian communities, i.e., re-telling and reflecting on the stories of Jesus.

WHAT HAPPENS AT A TYPICAL GATHERING OF SUNDAY SCRIPTURE STUDY?

The format is simple. The Gospel passage is read aloud. There is a little time for silent reflection. This is followed by a focusing presentation. We then engage in conversation about the passage.
