Theology and Arts:  The Art of Theology
Ed Foley, Capuchin

Throughout our history, Christians have employed various art forms to express and create theology.  This PowerPoint presentation will examine the importance of the arts -- especially music -- in both understanding and encountering
the Divine.

Ed Foley, Capuchin
Professor of Liturgy and Music
M.Div., St. Francis Seminary; M.Mus., University of Wisconsin; M.A., Ph.D., University of Notre Dame

Fr. Edward Foley is a member of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order.  Fr. Foley is past-president of the North American Academy of Liturgy, and a founder and originating member of the executive committee of the Catholic Academy of Liturgy. He sits on the executive committee of the International Academy of Practical Theology. Foley is currently Professor of Liturgy and Music at Catholic Theological Union.

Fr. Foley has 19 books to his credit, including the well-known From Age to Age that has been expanded and completely revised (Liturgical Press, 2008). He has also authored more than 300 scholarly and pastoral articles and reviews.

A Unique Collaboration
Catholic Theological Union (CTU) is a graduate school of theology sponsored by twenty-five religious communities. Founded in the wake of the Second Vatican Council, it has grown to be the largest Catholic school of theology in the country and serves a diverse student body of religious order seminarians, lay men and women, and a significant number of international students. Located in Hyde Park, CTU is home to a faculty widely recognized for their excellence in preparing new generations of leadership for the church.

For over 150 years, Old St. Patrick's Church has stood at the western gateway of Chicago's Loop. Built seven generations ago, this old city church, a treasure born of the immigrant dream, has welcomed hundreds of thousands of people who have come through its doors seeking a deeper, richer experience of  life. Our current generation of members joins with those of the past in striving to build an experience of church that is  genuinely welcoming, mission oriented, and Christ centered.
