Prayer Vigil For Families
at Ronald McDonald Houses
March 4, 2012
Please join us for a special day of prayer in support of the families staying at the four Chicagoland Ronald McDonald Houses.
The Ronald McDonald Houses provide a “home away from home” to keep families together while their child is receiving medical treatment far from home. Located near Advocate Hope Children’s Hospital, Children’s Memorial Hospital, Loyola University Medical Center and University of Chicago Comer Children’s Hospital, the Houses provide comfortable & private rooms, opportunities to bond with other families going through similar situations, and delicious meals prepared by giving volunteers.
On this day, March 4, 2012, S.P.O.K.E.S. volunteers will be preparing dinner for the Ronald
McDonald families. We would like to build a day of prayer to coincide with the dinner-making.
To participate, please sign up for a half-hour time slot by going to www.SignUpGenius.com/go/spokes/1265797. During your time slot, you can gather together in your home, as a family, to pray.
Pray however you would like to pray. Perhaps your family already has its own unique prayer traditions. It will be helpful to set a reverent tone and to help your children to treat this time as sacred. Here are some ideas if you would like to try something new:
- Light a candle to symbolize the light of God;
- Make a card or write a letter to a child or family staying at a Ronald
- McDonald House;
- Write a letter to God expressing how you might like to ask Him to help;
- Play sacred music (try Holy Now by Peter Mayer) and dance as a prayer;
- Read Psalms from a children’s bible;
- Talk about what it might be like to be a child with a serious illness, or to have a sibling who is ill;
- Look at the Ronald McDonald House website to find out more about them and to see if there are other ways that your family could help.
We hope to have specific details about who is staying at the Houses that we can post on SignUpGenius on March 1.
Thank you for accompanying us on this journey of grace.
