Some day, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity; we shall harness for God the energies of Love, and then for a second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire.
-Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
More often than not, Pentecost is experienced as almost an after thought… a “Junior’” celebration as compared to it’s Big Older Siblings — Christmas and Easter. Gratefully and Gracefully, we have spent a fair amount of energy at Old St. Pat’s to infuse the Celebration of Pentecost with the attention and intentionality it deserves! This year, we are excited about the prospect of carving out a few precious hours to actually Prepare for the dawning of Pentecost in our lives, in the Church and in the world. Sr. Joan Chittister prophetically reminds us that: “Easter makes us unafraid to die; And Pentecost makes us unafraid to Live.” On Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will gather to contemplate Pentecost Questions:
- About what am I passionate?
- What would “harnessing the energies of Love” entail for me, and what are the implications of this harnessing for my life this year?
- Were Pentecost to actually make me Unafraid to Live… to Really Live — then how would I live this year?
- Pentecost marks the inauguration of our relationship with the Spirit of the Living God — What is the nature of your relationship with this Spirit? For most of us this relationship could stand to be reinvigorated!
We would consider sharing this day of Pentecost Preparation with you both
a delight and a privilege.
